Athens General Photos

There are enough hills and high buildings in Athens, not to mention the Hymettus, Parnitha and Pendeli mountains framing the city, for the photographer to shoot general city photos. In this album we have included some of them, generally descriptive ones. The visitor must have in mind, though, that the beauty of Athens, as in most metropolitan cities, is not very apparent in pictures of this sort. Its beauty lies with its diversity and its ages-long cultural heritage, as well as with the mentality of its inhabitants, with whom you will most likely encounter promenading the city's streets. The personal touch is always nicer than simply looking at somewhat myopic photos.

Athens Panathenaic Stadium from Lycabettus The first Olympic Games of Modern Times took place here in 1896. It is also the finishing spot for the International Marathon events that take place in Attica, following the classical route.	The Strefi Hill and the Areos Park from Lycabettus

Athens Syngrou Hospital and Kaisariani Park The photo was taken facing directly eastwards. Mt. Hymettus, once covered with pine trees, is blocking the horizon.	The Acropolis and Philopappos Hills at Sunset At the foot of the ock of the Acropolis, we see Plaka. Behind the Acropolis, the Philopappos Hill is visible and, further back, Faleron Bay. In the background, the island of Aegina is vaguely distinguishable.
The Court Buildings	The Greek Parliament Building, the National Garden and the Olympeion from Lycabettus The Greek Parliament is housed in the building of the ex Royal Palace. Next to it is the National Garden, previously Royal Gardens. Short tele has been used, to cut off some of the wild and ugly, seen from above, Kolonaki city quarter.
