Dodecanese Islands | Kastelorizo

Kastelorizo in David Gilmour's work "Remember That Night"

The Greek Island of Kastelorizo has inspired the Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour to his third solo album, "On an Island".

It is a instrumental Guitar solo, based on a night Gilmour spent on Kastelorizo. The first tune is called Castellorizon (one of the spellings of Kastelorizo), and is followed by the song, "On an Island", which the album is named after. This song was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 49th Grammy Awards. It was nominated again for the same Grammy Award two years later; it was then for its performance by Gilmour in his "Live in Gdańsk" album.

The albums second song, "On an Island" is also based on the night Gilmour spent on Kastelorizo, but, as well, on honoring and remembering those who have died. This song also, together the entity of the ones included in the album, made part of Gilmour's live performance in Gdańsk in 2006 and appears on the official DVD edition "Remember That Night (see photo). It features backing vocals of David Crosby and Graham Nash.
