Dodecanese Islands | Kos

Kos ...more on Kos

Kos is also an excellent island for bicycling, and there are many paths running between the beach areas of Psalidi and Lambi and the Town of Kos.  In fact, within Kos Town, that seems to be the preferred mode of transport, day and night.

Kos is particularly known as a shopping paradise (they do have some nice jewelry shops, hand painted icons, locally produced fresh alimentation products, and local artwork) and you can do all your shopping on the spot. The market in nearby Bodrum on the Turkish coast has all the fors and againsts of an underdeveloped one.  If you make the one-day trip to there,  you can search for leather goods, carpets, clothing, and rich, sweet Turkish pastries and candies. With the exception of candies, guaranteed for their quality if enclosed in fly-tight windows, you must be warned against the wide range of quality of the products on sale. The saying is that you can buy fantastic items if accompanied by a Turkish friend who can talk the shop owner into taking out what he keeps in the back of his shop!

Other interesting daytrips include a visit to nearby Kalymnos, famous for its sponge divers; or a visit to nearby Nissiros to explore the sleeping volcano.  You can find details of these excursions on our Tours & Excursions menu to the right of this page.

If you would like to take a bit of time and explore the interior of the island, you will have a chance to see some fantastic natural scenery and explore some of the original villages of the island, such as Zia and Pili.
