Welcome to Nea Makri!
Situated on the east coast of the mainland, five kilometers north of the Port of Rafina, which is fast becoming the main port between the mainland and the Cycladic Islands, the seaside village of Nea Makri is an excellent location for visitors wishing to visit the nearby historic site of Marathon, which lies 8 kilometers to the north.
This small village still has lots of local color and a village atmosphere, even though the city of Athens is only one hour away by public transport. There are plenty of accommodation choices here, including beachfront hotels with swimming pools, many restaurants, and marvelous views overlooking the Gulf of Marathon.
Now that the new El. Venizelos International Airport has opened in nearby Spata, the east coast area of Nea Makri has the possibility to evolve into the new “Gold Coast” of Attika, running all the way down to the southern tip of Sounio.
