Welcome to Limenaria!
This town is the second largest settlement on the island, and its population is quickly catching up to that of the capital, Limenas. This attractive village located on the southwest coast was firmly established in the early 20th century as a mining town, exporting minerals to Germany. When the mines closed, the village turned its attention to tourism toward the latter part of the century. The mining company’s office still stands (The Speidel Palataki), and abandoned mines can be found along the beach.
The village is very well developed and offers shops and supermarkets, tavernas, bars, small cafés, and a folklore museum. From Limenaria, you can also visit the old village of Kastro, whose inhabitants were the first to move down from their 800-meter village to settle Limenaria Town at the end of the 19th century.
Other things a visitor could do include long walks in the mountainous surrounding of the town, mountain biking or driving longer distances to enjoy more remote hidden treasures. If one likes the sea and wishes to spend more time by it, there are a lot of cozy seaside snack bars or cafés where one can sip his/her preferred cocktail. And if one does not like having a meal at a taverna, there are other options: you can have a rich meal at the restaurant of some hotel on the beach, whether you stay in it or not!
