Cyclades Islands  -  Holidays in Greece

Kratos

15 Days / 14 Nights: Athens (1 night) - Tinos (6 nights) - Naxos (6 nights) - Athens (1 night)

15 Days / 14 Nights: Athens (1 night) - Tinos (6 nights) - Naxos (6 nights) - Athens (1 night)

Naxos Beach

These two islands, while similar in some ways, work well together simply because of their contrasts. Both have large Catholic populations and the history and legacy of the Venetians, and both are less touristic than their neighbors, but there the similarity ends. Naxos is the largest of the Cycladic islands, a bit imposing at first sight, due to its mountainous terrain. Here you have high elevations dropping to low valleys, ravines, and beautiful beaches. Naxos Town offers some outstanding examples of Venetian architecture, plus the old Venetian castle. Tinos, by comparison, offers lots of charm and tiny sweet villages, where the emphasis is definitely on simplicity and art in every form. It retains its ethnicity because of the large number of Greek tourists who come to Tinos to visit the famous Church of the Panagia. Naxos, the island of farmers, and Tinos, the island of artists, combine together to make one of the most interesting itineraries in our program.

You’ve plenty of time ahead of you to enjoy the very best of Tinos, with its fifty or so villages, extraordinary dovecotes, and outstanding variety of beaches. Tinos is a treasure of art and artistry, and there are always art exhibits planned for July, August, and September. There are plenty of walking trails for walking enthusiasts, but the best way to get to know Tinos is by car. During your time on the island, there are a multitude of activities to keep you busy, including perhaps a climb to the top of the ancient mountain capital of Exobourgo, or a morning spent in Pirgos Village wandering the marble workshops and visiting the new, world-class Museum of Marble Crafts. Nearby, you can have an afternoon swim and lunch at the tiny port of Panormos. You can spend days exploring remote beaches and the outstanding countryside, with lunch at the seaside or in a mountain village, or take one or more of several off-island day-trips to Andros, Syros, Mykonos and Delos. 5 overnights Tinos.

You’ll certainly be kept busy on this island. Driving through the interior of the island will definitely be at the top of your list. Here you’ll view a wide variety of scenery, from mountains to fertile plains, which hold much of the farming regions of the island. The island has fantastic beaches, so you’ll always be able to combine a swim during your travels. The town of Naxos is quite interesting to explore, and you shouldn’t miss the Venetian castle, right in town. There are about 20 villages on the island, old emery caves, lots of chapels and churches, monasteries, old temples and fortresses, and plenty of outstanding scenery to capture on film. 5 overnights Naxos.
