Special Offer: Four Day First Acquaintance with Egypt

4 Days / 3 Overnights Cairo

There are travelers who do well to trust Travel Agencies in neighboring countries to their destinations to organize their trips to there. Windmills Travel proposes this excursion as a first acquaintance of yours with Egypt. Here is a country you are bound to visit again and again, not only due to its archaeological treasures but also because the seeds of the whole Western civilization were planted there. Of course, it must be given a chance to gain your well-merited attention and, as a rule, one hardly dedicates an eight- or ten-day period to have a first acquaintance with any destination. We, therefore, suggest this four-day excursion for you to get an idea of Cairo. In this shortest time possible to allow us visit Egypt, we combine ancient and Modern Egypt and when you come back, you tell us your impressions and we could plan together your next trip to there, tailor-made to your specific needs. The Nile river with the Luxor Temples and Assuan Dam, the West Desert with the new spectacular finds as well as the holy Greek-Orthodox Sinai peninsula monasteries and the Red Sea resorts can wait…

Day 1

Athens - Cairo

Athens - Cairo

Κάιρο

We gather at El. Venizelos airport and we get on board our plane for our flight to Cairo, cradle of a huge civilization that played a decicive role in paving for humanity's evolution. After arrival at Cairo, largest city of Africa with sixteen million inhabitants, we are transferred to our hotel. Check-in and freshen up before our dinner at the hotel; somewhat later we come and pick you up for our Cairo by night - Sound and Light show!

Day 2

Cairo - Giza Pyramids - Papyrus Institute - Cairo Archaeological Museum - Soufi Dance Dinner

Cairo - Giza Pyramids - Papyrus Institute - Cairo Archaeological Museum - Soufi Dance Dinner

Pyramid at sunrise in Cairo

After having our breakfast we set off on our guided tour, starting with visiting the Giza Pyramids (the Great Pyramid of Cheops or Khufu and the two pyramids of Chephren or Khafre and Mykerinus or Menkaure), the only remaining monuments of 'The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World'. At Giza we'll also see some more smaller buildings, known as the 'Queen's' Pyramids and the enigmatic Great Spinx, 45 meters (135ft) long. After our long visit we take our lunch at a local restaurant and we visit the Papyrus Institute to learn how paper was made in antiquity. There follows a visit to an outlet of aromatic oils grown in the Oasis os Siwa. Our last visit for tody will be in the Egyptian Archaeological Museum, full with Pharaonic masterpieces of immeasurable cultural value. We get acquainted with the relics of a grandiose most ancient civilization. Our attention will be attracted most by the art treasures discovered in Tutanhamon's grave, intact by looters. Tutanhamon was a comparably inferior Pharaoh; one could hardly imagine the wealth of the tomb offerings looted by body and golden artifact snatchers during a series of millenia! After the end of our Guided Tour we will be taken to our hotel.

We will have our dinner watching a traditional El Tanura Soufi Dervis spinning dance. The philosophical basis for this dance was set by the mystic poet Jelalaladdin Soufi already in the 13th century. Dance movements are supposed to depict the movement of the Universe, this is why they are circular. Dancers, through their spinning are trying to come to a trans status for them to come in direct contact with God; one repeated body position is the one with hands streched out, one towards the sky and the other towards the earth, in a way imitating the spiritual axis uniting the sky to the erath

Day 3

Cairo

Cairo

The Khan El Khalil 'souk' great bazaar

After breakfast, there follows a full-day sightseeing tour of Cairo; We shall visit the Coptic and the Islamic area; at noon we take lunch locally. After lunch we visit the Khan El Khalili souk (bazaar), open since the 14th century. Thousands of small shops selling anything one could and could not imagine. Hard bargaining is a prerequisite here, merchants are not only after money in general, they seem to be more interested in earning this money having persuaded you that everything you buy is the best possible product at the lowest possible price! We shall also have Oriental coffee in the oldest cafe in the Middle East and, later, visit a goldsmith's workshop. Jewlery here is much cheaper than anywhere else in Europe or the US. Dinner.

Day 4
