The Monastery of Saint George the Victorious is located nearby the ancient city of Feneos close to the villages Panorama and Calivia, past the Lake of Stymfalia, 2100 meters (6300 feet) above sea level.
It offered great services in the great war of Independence in 1821 and became the center of rebellious events. The Secret School which functioned in the monastery and which is still preserved pretty well was the secret meeting point for war chiefs with General Theodor Kolokotronis.
The church of St. Georgios is a sigle-domed basilica and decorated with fine frescoes. Of special importance is the iconostasis inside the church; an elaborate wood curved piece of Art, gold-plated and full of scenes derived from the Old Tastement.
Since 1998, the Monastery has a view over the new artificial Feneos (Doxa) Lake (See relevant Album)

Besides its role as a place where monks gathered the children of the area to teach them reading and writing during the Turkish Rule, this secret compartment of the monastery was used as a meeting place for the 1821-1828 Greek Liberation War leaders in Peloponnese.
