Argolida: A Host of Impressions

Enjoyment of the sea finds its best expression in the wonderful beaches lining the bay with their sparkling blue waters. Sand, sun, and shade from the pine trees that come down to the sea await summer visitors at Yalassi, Posta, Panayitsa, Polemarcha, Mikri and Megali Ammos, Sarandakoupi, Kalamaki, Vayiona (near Ancient Epidavros) and Spilia.

A tourist area with its own attractions, Epidavros is both a summer resort and a center for short but fascinating excursions in the vicinity.  Added advantages are its short distance from Athens and its proximity to other important historical and archaeological sites.

Close nearby, just beyond the ancient town with its big ancient theater and the Sanctuary of Asklepios with its recently restored ancient theater, there are Byzantine monuments and sites connected with Greece’s modern history.  To the south is the Monastery of “Kimissi tis Theotokou” in Kalamaki, while to the north are the Monasteries of Taxiarchis and of Panayia Agnoundos.  New Epidavros has a monument commemorating the First National Assembly of the revolutionary Greeks in 1821.  Slightly further from Old Epidavros, other sites of interest await the visitor: Historic Nafplion, The Mycenaean cities of Tiryns (in the photo corbelled galleries in the Cyclopean walls of Tiryns) and Mycenae, ancient Argos, ancient Corinth and the fortifications of Acrocorinth.  While for those who want to try their luck gambling, there is always the Casino at Loutraki.
