Konitsa at its best!

Welcome to Konitsa!

It is a city of 4,000 inhabitants, filled with warming architecture based on the Epirotic Style we have all grown to admire.  Stone buildings spill along the side of the 630 m altitude mountain, creating an unprecedented view.  A true ornament of the area are the churches, bridges and monasteries.  To complete the scenery aspect we have the Aoos River which follows the city on the right hand side.  Wonderful walking paths for those who enjoy trekking and a river for those who enjoy rafting at it's best.

The main symbol of Konitsa is its famous bridge. It is one of the biggest single arched bridges in the Balkans. Its height is about 20 meters and its length 40 meters. Its construction began in 1823 and was finished about 50 years later in 1871.  An ever so popular and relatively easy track, can be found if  you cross the bridge to the other side of the Aoos river and take the path along the gorge  This is considered to be a favorite for ambitious rafting and kayak fans. As you walk along both rocky and slightly steep paths for approximately and hour and a half, you come to meet the monastery of Stomion (Moni Stomiou) which was built in 1774 on the top of a rock.

The locals continue to impress with their warm identity, embracing visitors with the Greek, traditional hospitality. Meet Olga from the local coffee shop 'kafenio' who makes traditional Greek coffee like no other and Eleni from 'Marmelodia', with local sweet and sour treats that will leave your taste buds in a mode of amazement for years to come.
