Welcome to Chora Andros!
Andros' main town, or Chora, has a long seafaring tradition. For centuries on end, its inhabitants turned to the sea to earn a living and, eventually, having been rather successful at it, they could invest important capital in building ships of their own. This is reflected in the architecture of Hora, which is typical for a “captain's house” building tradition. It has also created the prerequisites for a very important Nautical and Folklore Museum.
Other exceptional Museums are the Archaeological Museum and the Museums of Modern Art. The Kairis Library and the Unknown Sailor Monument also deserve a visit. Very near to Hora are Nimborio and Paraporti Beaches. Within walking distance are also the beaches of Lydi, Yialia and Piso Yialia. Not far away are the picturesque villages of Stenies, Lamira and Apoikia, where there are water springs with so abundant a water flow that there is a local bottling enterprise on the spot.
