Levidi Central Square with Village Church

Welcome to Levidi!

Levidi is a beautiful village built at the foot of Mt. Mainalon, next to the dense fir tree forest, at an altitude of 850 meters (2550 feet). You reach Levidi driving from Tripoli to Patras. It is inhabited by 700 permanent residents and, during the summer, by a couple of thousand people originally from the village, who return for summer holidays.

Farming and animal husbandry are the main sources of the local economy. Before one enters the village, the smell of roasted meat in the local tavernas is a sign that Levidi is also visited by many people from surrounding villages who visit in their leisure time.

Levidi has a long and rich history. It is the birth place of Alexander Papanastassiou, one of the top modern Greek politicians and Prime Minister in the beginning of the 20th century. In April 1821, one of the first victorious battles of the Greek Revolution took place here, and in the central square one can see the statue of Anagnostis Striftompolas, a local chief who was killed during the fighting.

If you are the “mountain loving” type of a vacationer, Levidi offers a limited number of hotel and private rooms to let and unlimited ways to enjoy nature in the neighboring mountain forests. The Ostrakina Skiing Resort is within easy reach from here.
