Thessaloniki Sunset View

Group or Private Basis Only

This outstanding tour contrasts Greece’s two major cities, Thessaloniki in the north, and Athens in the South. Included will be a visit to Kavala and to Delphi, with stops on Day 5 at the Corinth Canal, Ancient Corinth, Nauplia, Mycenae, and Epidaurus. The itinerary is designed as an add-on to an earlier tour of Turkey, with international flights based on arrival and departure through Istanbul. This tour commences with a Greek guide in Kavala, where the group will arrive from Turkey by coach. The group will return to Turkey by air from Athens to connect to their interenational flight home.

Day 3

Thessaloniki City, Delphi Town

Thessaloniki View of White Tower
Thessaloniki View of White Tower

After breakfast, we visit the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and then continue to Vergina for a visit of the excavations and the rich exhibits of the Tomb of Phillip II.  In 1977, M. Andronicos brought to light the royal tombs in the Great Tumulus of Vergina. The most remarkable of these was the tomb of Philip II, and its discovery is considered to be one of the most important archaeological events of the century. Since then, continuing excavations have revealed a series of significant monuments. During a morning tour, we will visit the site and its exhibits, among which are some world-famous gold finds.

The importance of the finds in Vergina Archaeological site (not to mention the very geographical position of Vergina itself!) exceeds the Greek national borders and adds precious historical documentation on the origin and nature of the Macedonian civilization. It proves the efforts on FYROM's part to monopolize the name of Macedonia historically ignorant and politically far fetched. The writer of these lines was born in Vergina and finds it difficult to understand why he should have problems declaring his Macedonian identity feeling, at the same time, one hundred per cent Greek!

We continue on for Delphi, via Lamia and Amfissa. Overnight Delphi.

Day 4

Delphi Town, Athens City

Delphi: Temple of Athena Pronaia and the Tholos
Delphi: Temple of Athena Pronaia and the Tholos

After breakfast, we begin our tour of Delphi, known as the “Navel of the World,” where history was ‘predicted’ by the renowned oracle in ancient times. The museum at Delphi contains many important finds from the site, among them the impressive Bronze Charioteer. Early afternoon, we continue on for Athens. Overnight Athens.

Day 5

Athens City, Nafplion Town, Corinth City

Corinth Isthmos Canal
Corinth Isthmos Canal

After a walking tour of Nauplia, proceed for Epidaurus to visit the famous amphitheater. Return to Athens via the coastal road. Overnight Athens.
